Repurposing My Scars

Life has a way of leaving marks. I’m not talking about the kind you see in the mirror, but the ones you feel deep inside. Scars. Not the kind that come from tripping on the sidewalk or bumping into a kitchen cabinet (though those sting too!)—I mean the emotional ones. The scars from failure, misunderstandings, betrayal, disappointment, heartbreak, and all the other battles we don’t post about on social media. You know the kind I mean, right?
Here’s the truth: we all have them. Every single one of us.
And that’s why I’m writing you today. I want to personally invite you to a sermon series at our church that has been stirring in my soul for weeks. It’s called "Repurposing My Scars," and honestly, it might be one of the most powerful, healing, and hope-filled series we’ve ever done.
The Heart Behind the Series
Let me be real with you: pain changes us. But God? He transforms us.
This series is about that transformation. It’s about how God doesn’t waste a single scar. Even the ones we’re still ashamed of. Even the ones we try to keep hidden. Our theme says it all:
"When my scars are repurposed, my story is re-written."

Each week, we’ll walk through the life of Moses. Not just the epic, Red-Sea-parting Moses, but the broken, flawed, wounded Moses. The one who messed up, who doubted, who got angry, who felt betrayed. Sound familiar? That’s the Moses we’re going to sit with. And in doing so, we’ll see ourselves—and our stories—in a whole new light.
Here’s a sneak peek of where we’re headed:
Week 1: Scars from Failure
Exodus 2:11-23
We kick off the series with a moment of raw, honest failure. Moses tried to step in and help, but it all went wrong. He fled. He hid. He carried guilt and fear for decades.
Have you ever made a choice that went sideways? A decision that haunts you? We all have moments where we feel like we blew it. Week one is for the person who wonders if God could ever use them again. Spoiler alert: He can. And He will. God uses even the messiest of failures to craft something beautiful.
Week 2: Scars from Misunderstandings
Exodus 3:1 – 4:14
Moses meets God in the burning bush. You’d think that would clear everything up, right? Instead, it raises a thousand questions, fears, and objections. Moses doesn’t feel seen, known, or understood. He doesn’t feel capable.
Misunderstandings are painful. Whether it’s with others or with God, feeling misunderstood can leave deep scars. In this message, we’ll explore how God speaks directly into those insecurities. He doesn’t dismiss them—He repurposes them.
Week 3: Scars from Anger and Frustration
Numbers 20:1-13
Sometimes life just pushes us to the edge. Moses knows what it’s like to be so frustrated, so fed up, that you react in ways you later regret. This week is for the weary. The ones who are trying to hold it together, but everything feels like too much.
Anger isn’t always about rage; sometimes it’s about exhaustion. Hurt. Disappointment. Join us as we unpack the anger we carry and discover how God meets us in our frustration.
Week 4: Scars from Betrayal
Exodus 32:17-35
You trust people. You give them your heart. And then... they break it. Moses came down from the mountain to find his people—the ones he was leading, the ones he loved—worshiping a golden calf. The betrayal cut deep.
If you’ve ever felt the sting of betrayal, this message is for you. We’ll talk about forgiveness, boundaries, and the powerful truth that God is still working in the aftermath. Our scars don’t get the final say. God does.
Why This Series Matters (to Me, to You, to Everyone)
Let me tell you why I’m so excited about this series. It’s not just because the content is rich (though it is), or because the stories are compelling (they are). It’s because this series is deeply human.
It’s for all of us who’ve been through some things. For those still healing. For those pretending they’re fine. For those who wonder if their pain has a purpose.
I believe this series is going to be a lifeline. A breath of fresh air. A reminder that you’re not alone and you’re not forgotten. Most of all, it’s a celebration of how God redeems the most painful parts of our story. He doesn’t erase our scars—He transforms them.
Show Up
If you’ve read this far, something is probably tugging at your heart. Maybe it’s curiosity. Maybe it’s longing. Maybe it’s a quiet voice inside whispering, "This is for you."
So here’s my invitation: come. Bring your questions. Bring your doubts. Bring your scars. There’s no pressure to have it all together—just show up. Let God meet you in a new way. I promise you won’t regret it.
And while you’re at it, think about someone in your life who could use this series too. That friend going through a divorce. The co-worker dealing with burnout. The neighbor who just lost a loved one. What would it look like to invite them? To say, "Hey, I’m going to this series at church that’s all about healing and hope. Want to come with me?"
Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is share hope.
Final Thoughts
Here’s what I know: we all have scars. But scars mean we survived. They’re signs of healing. And in God’s hands, they become testimonies.
So let’s walk this journey together. Let’s find healing together. Let’s watch as God repurposes our scars and re-writes our stories in the most beautiful way.
You’re invited. You’re welcome. You’re seen. You’re loved.
"Repurposing My Scars" starts this Sunday, August 10th. I hope to see you there.
